Adults with Type 2 Diabetes May Also Have Reduced Kidney Function
Onglyza 2.5 mg is approved for use in adults with type 2 diabetes who have reduced kidney function.
Onglyza is a prescription medicine used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, including those with reduced kidney function. A once-daily dose of Onglyza 2.5 mg is recommended for patients with moderate or severe reduced kidney function, or with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring hemodialysis. Onglyza 2.5 mg should be taken after hemodialysis. Talk to your doctor about a schedule for taking your medications if your medical condition requires dialysis.
Your doctor should test your blood to measure how well your kidneys are working before and during treatment with ONGLYZA. You may need a lower dose if your kidneys are not working well.
When ONGLYZA is used with certain other diabetes medicines to treat high blood sugar, such as a sulfonylurea or insulin, the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is higher. Symptoms of low blood sugar include shaking, hunger, sweating, headache, rapid heartbeat, change in mood, and change in vision. Follow your doctor’s instructions for treating low blood sugar.
Before you take Onglyza, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions and the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of your medicines and show it to your doctor and pharmacist when you get a new medicine.
Ask your doctor if Onglyza is right for you.
